Service temporarily suspended – August 2015
Due to our imminent move to form the Lunesdale Community, we’re unfortunately unable to offer this personalised travel service for a period of a few weeks. We hope to reinstate it later in the Autumn, once the initial community is settled. In the meantime, please see the Taizé Community’s suggestions for individual travel from the UK.
Please accept our apologies for being unable to offer our usual service during this time.
If you have difficulty finding suitable arrangements, please don’t hesitate to contact us, and we’ll still do what we can to help. We are still able to make arrangements for groups wishing to travel during this time.
The next open group travel we will organise to Taizé will be for Holy Week and Easter 2016.
We are usually able to offer year-round travel to Taizé from the UK, based on public transport. The intention of this is to provide a joined-up and supported link during the parts of the year when there is no direct coach service. However, we can also offer this during the summer if desired, for example if there are no spaces left on direct coaches for late bookings or you wish to travel in a different way.
Travel will typically involve an overnight coach from London to Paris, a convenient connecting train to one of the Mâcon stations or other nearby point, and bus connection from there to Taizé. We can also provide suitable train connections within the UK which will connect with your departure from London. Upon request we will also try to accommodate special requests – e.g. if you’d prefer to sleep in a proper bed on a longer ferry crossing, rather than spending the night on a coach, or if you’d like to make the whole journey in a day by high-speed train (not usually possible on a Sunday).
In contrast to most services offered by Metapilgrim, this is not an accompanied journey, but you will receive detailed instructions of how to find your transport at each stage along the way. The whole trip is covered by our travel insurance, so you will be taken care of if a connection is missed due to late incoming transport, and we are available by phone throughout your journey to offer support in case of any difficulties.
In addition to making your bookings for you, we can (optionally) put you in contact with fellow pilgrims who will be travelling at the same time, by the same transport as you. Thus you can connect with others already in London, for example, and share the journey together. At the time of requesting a quote, you can choose whether or not you wish your contact information to be shared with others who have booked the same journey. You can also see when selecting your dates whether others have already booked on the same service.
We will search for the best available pricing at the time when you request a quote. The best prices are available when booking at least 12 weeks in advance, so it pays to plan ahead. Typically a return trip by coach and train from London to Taizé comes in a little under £200 for an adult, including travel insurance for the journey and the duration of your stay. Lower prices are available for children and young people, typically around £180 for age 16-25 when booking over 3 months in advance. You can optionally request that we also look at cheaper deals on neighbouring days, or routes which offer greater comfort or speed.
